information is gathered from the NOAA weather tower
at Molasses Reef off of Key Largo. Using wind velocity,
duration and directional indicators, accurate sea
conditions may be predicted:
2. Current Weather Radar
Provides an accurate assessment of potentially dangerous thunderstorms moving towards land from a seaward direction. Thunderstorms moving from a general westerly direction, or storms that are stalled over land are generally not a threat to offshore activities.
3. Weather Forecast
The forecast area to choose is: “Ocean Reef to Craig Key, FL. – Out 20 nm”.
NOAA provides this information through their weather forecasters. While it is roughly 80-85% accurate, it should always be verified by checking current weather conditions.
